Foreword by the Provost

Thank you for your service as a member of your unit’s faculty hiring committee. The excellence of our academic community at the University of Southern California relies upon the good judgment of faculty hiring committees that bring the best and brightest scholars, teachers, researchers, clinicians, artists, and performers from their respective fields forward for consideration. Your work over the coming year is, therefore, vital to the continued success and vibrancy of not only our community but also the students we teach and the research in which we engage.

Hand-in-hand with our continual effort for excellence is the need to recognize that excellence comes in many forms. As a university, we are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at all levels, including in the faculty we recruit. It is our goal that this handbook microsite serves as a useful tool for your and your committee’s work over the course of the academic year to build a diverse applicant pool that yields the greatest minds who will join our ranks.
